Drawing from the personal experiences of a seasoned pastor, a team of modern liberal scholars, and the gospel accounts of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, Teacher, Guide, Companion challenges readers to reexamine their own relationship with Jesus Christ and its significance in the 21st century. Integrating both secular and religious source materials, Wikstrom demonstrates how a close examination of historical findings and the Gospels can lead to a renewed faith in Jesus Christ. The field of Jesus studies, which is dominated by academics, will benefit from this analysis by a working minister.

From the introduction:
This book grew out of my own search in the religious soil that nourished me. In some ways it is a very personal book, reflecting the journey I have taken over the past several years to reacquaint myself with the figure of Jesus Christ, whom I once described in an Easter sermon as -- an old friend I seem intent on forgetting. Yet it is intended not just as a record of my journey but, more importantly, as a guide for your own. While it is interesting to know what others think and have thought about this man, the question that is ultimately important is what you say about him. Who do you say that he is? Can you believe in Jesus? Should you? This book aims to help you answer these questions.
