"All healing is self-induced. The potential is built into all living things by our Creator. The key is to learn about the process and achieve our potential. Albert Amao's book will help explain this process to the world, helping everyone to read, understand and achieve. As Ernest Holmes wrote, 'What if Jesus was the only normal person who ever lived?'"

Albert Amao is a graduate of San Marcos University, Lima-Peru. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and is a clinical hypnotherapist and holistic counselor. He is an ongoing Ageless Wisdom seeker and has studied metaphysics, New Thought philosophy, Hermetic Qabalah, and depth psychology most of his life, and he also lectures widely on these topics.

As a man thinketh, so is he–thus is the biblical King Solomon often quoted by proponents of New Thought, one of the most influential native religious movements in America. Albert Amao provides an engaging and serious history of this and related movements from the eighteenth century to the present. His discussion ranges from Phineas P. Quimby, the father of New Thought, and Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science, to Myrtle Fillmore, cofounder of Unity Church of Christianity, William James, the father of American psychology, and leaders in the emerging field of Energy Psychology. Amao’s aim is to provide a rational explanation of the power of thought to heal the mind and body. All methods of mind/spiritual healing are self-healing, he says; we all have an inner capacity to heal ourselves. He examines cases of contemporary New Thought leaders who self-healed from “incurable” diseases free of medicine, and he describes the mechanism that triggered their healing. Their experiences have benefited millions of followers worldwide. The beauty of New Thought, says Amao, is that it empowers us to become conscious co-creators of our well-being and achieve success in other areas of life beyond recovering our health.

As Ernest Holmes wrote, 'What if Jesus was the only normal person who ever lived?'" --Bernie Siegel, MD, author of A Book of Miracles and The Art of Healing "Healing Without Medicine is an insightful and perceptive look at the history of the origins and development of using the human mind to heal. Dr. Amao has meticulously researched the topic and provides students of psychology and the healing arts with the necessary background to unravel the intricacies it entails. His observations and deductions on New Thought and on the pioneers of mind healing provide important clues to better comprehend this sometimes baffling subject. This book may well become a classic in the field of mind healing and deserves to be read more than once." --Terry Hunt and Paul Benedict, authors of Ancient Wisdom for a New Age: A Practical Guide for Spiritual Growth "This is a book that deserves a preferential place in the library of individuals interested in complementary, alternative and integrative medicine. It reveals the historical process of mind/body healing from the perspective of the western Judeo/Christian tradition, highlighting those who came to live during the last two hundred years, specifically in the Northeast of the United States of America, creating a liaison with the more modern movements rooted in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. I really appreciate Albert Amao's effort in putting together this work which I personally consider very enriching and enjoyable." --Fernando A. de Torrijos, Former Director and Clinician of Mindfulness Programs at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and International Consultant on Mind/Body Medicine "Rarely do we come across a scholar who knows how to blend physics with metaphysics, history with philosophy, religion with science, and medical science with self-healing all in one package. What is fascinating about the book is that Dr. Amao is able to trace the roots of New Thought. He has done a brilliant work of blending American esoteric philosophy with practical day-to-day wisdom in the area of body, mind and spirit. A brilliant work of synthesis and great insights; I highly recommend this book." --Charles W. Mark, Ph.D., author of Spiritual Intelligence and the Neuroplastic Brain
