Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines for Weiser Books, Disinformation Books plus Hampton Roads Publishing, Career Press, and Turning Stone Press*
We welcome submissions to our publishing family. Please read our guidelines carefully and decide which imprint is best for your project. We accept unsolicited submissions, and agented and unagented submissions. We prefer proposals, but if your manuscript is finished you can send that as well. We’ve provided a detailed list of what we need to see when we consider a project. Red Wheel/Weiser, LLC. publishes under three imprints: Weiser Books, and Disinformation Books. We also acquire books for Hampton Roads Publishing. And, as a joint collaborative publishing venture with independent authors, we acquire books for Turning Stone imprint.

Our goal is to publish “books to live by.” We adhere to no dogma, or practice, or ideology. We want to publish books that open people’s eyes to looking at the world in different ways, that give them tools for improving their lives that inspire or instruct them.

There’s a brief general description of the kinds of books we do (and don’t) publish under each imprint here. Before submitting any materials to any of our imprints, we suggest you familiarize yourself with our titles. (All of our books from all of our imprints can be found on this website. Be sure to note that we list them by title, by author, and by category.)

The Fine Print: When submitting a proposal, please remember that it may take up to 12 weeks (although it’s usually a shorter time period) for your material to be reviewed. We welcome submissions either electronically, as an attachment to an email, or mailed hard copy. Please note that we do not accept faxes or discs or URLs to manuscripts found elsewhere as submissions. Please note that unless you included a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage we will not return hard copies of submitted material.

*You’ll find the slightly different Turning Stone Press submission descriptions here.

About Each Imprint

Weiser Books has a long history as one of America’s preeminent publishers of esoteric or occult teachings from traditions all around the world and throughout time. New consciousness, metaphysics, magick/magic, astrology, tarot, Wicca, pan-pagan — we publish books to live by for readers on many different spiritual paths.

Disinformation Books: Look at the world in a different way, reveal a truth that corporations or government are trying to hide, examine history and science and religion with an open mind, call the Emperor on his outfit. Collect oddities and lists and put them together in interesting ways. Look at where we’ve been and where we might be going without benefit of a political or religious label. That’s a Disinformation Book.

Hampton Roads Publishing: Though we are not necessarily limited in scope, we are most interested in manuscripts on the following subjects: body/mind/spirit non-fiction, alternative health and healing, self-help with a spiritual bent, received wisdom, and religion and meditation from traditions east and west.

Career Press: Career Press was founded in 1985 as a niche publisher of career titles that has grown to encompasses all areas of business. We have helped millions of job seekers, businesspeople, and consumers of all ages with the practical, helpful information they need in the areas of business, careers, HR & Work Place Issues, management, marketing/sales, negotiation, small business/entrepreneurship, motivation/self-help, and interpersonal skills.

More Fine Print: Please note that, as a general rule, our only imprint that publishes personal narrative non-fiction (i.e. memoir or autobiography) is Turning Stone Press.
