Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines for Weiser Books and New Page Books plus Hampton Roads Publishing, Career Press, and Turning Stone Press*

We welcome submissions to our publishing family. Please read our guidelines carefully and decide which imprint is best for your project. We accept unsolicited submissions and agented and un-agented submissions. We prefer proposals, but if your manuscript is finished you can send that as well. We’ve provided a detailed list of what we need to see when we consider a project. Red Wheel/Weiser, LLC. publishes under three imprints: Weiser Books, New Page Books, and Career Press. We also acquire books for Hampton Roads Publishing. And, as a joint collaborative publishing venture with independent authors, we acquire books for the Turning Stone imprint.

Our goal is to publish “books to live by.” We adhere to no dogma, or practice, or ideology. We want to publish books that open people’s eyes to looking at the world in different ways, that give them tools for improving their lives that inspire or instruct them.

There’s a brief general description of the kinds of books we do (and don’t) publish under each imprint here. Before submitting any materials to any of our imprints, we suggest you familiarize yourself with our titles. (All of our books from all of our imprints can be found on this website. Be sure to note that we list them by title, by author, and by category.)

The Fine Print: When submitting a proposal to Weiser, Hampton Roads, Career Press, or New Page, please remember that it may take up to 12 weeks (although it’s usually a shorter time period) for your material to be reviewed. We welcome electronic submissions by emailing your proposal to submissions@rwwbooks.com. Include your material as an attachment or in the body of the email. Please note that we do not accept faxes, discs, or URLs to manuscripts found elsewhere as submissions. We are accepting electronic submissions only.

*You’ll find the slightly different Turning Stone Press submission descriptions here.

More Fine Print: Please note that, as a general rule, our only imprint that publishes personal narrative non-fiction (i.e. memoir or autobiography) is Turning Stone Press.

Please include in your submission:

  • Cover letter including author information and a brief description of proposed work.
  • The proposal, including an overview of the book; a complete table of contents; a market/audience analysis, including similar titles; an up-to-date listing of your own marketing and publicity experience and/or plans; your vita and/or qualifications to write the book; and two or three sample chapters.
  • If appropriate, sample illustrations or photographs  (duplicates, please, not originals).

Please include your phone number, email, and mailing address with your submission.

In addition to reviewing your work, we will be happy to add your email address to our mailing list and send you information about our publishing program from time to time.
